Business stories: The Pivot

A real business example from my work as a Consulting Mentor

Pivoting is tough, it means switching from your cherished business model that has cost you lots of blood, sweat and tears to get off the ground, that you have fought to keep alive, modified and reinvested in, but ultimately just doesn’t get off the ground despite still being the great idea that gave you a terrific buzz and the impetus to go into business in the first place. 

 

 

We generally only hear about the pivots that work, so the switch itself isn’t the key, it is the specifics of what you do and how well you reimagine your engagement with the target niche or change the niche entirely. Perhaps, it’s the second or third pivot, a switchback ride that finally comes off good.
